Follow This Way to Create

Hello fellow ColourArte-ists, and welcome back for my second post this month.   As you know, we are featuring ColourArte Silks Acrylic Glazes and Primary Elements Artist Pigments.  You are going to love both of these products!!!  Let me show you!

Lately, I have really been getting into making things to decorate my studio, as well as inspire me.  When I saw this arrow chipboard, I knew exactly what I wanted to make.
Today's project is a chipboard arrow and "create" word.  I am going to hang it on the door to my studio.

Paint both chipboard pieces with white gesso on the top and sides.  Use mixed media adhesive to glue down the torn pieces of antique ledger paper.

Paint top of arrow with Teal Zircon and Lime Green Silks.  Let dry.

Add a wash of Olive Vine Primary Elements (PE) mixed with gum arabic.  Gum Arabic is a binder which will make the PE stick to the surface. Next, add some Bolivian Blue Silks to bring more blue color back in.
Paint sides of arrow with Ocean Wave.
Then use your finger to rub some Nutmeg Silks across the top and sides.
Here is a closeup of what my background looks like now, but we are not finished.
I wanted to bring more blue back into it, so I brushed on some Bolivian Blue Silks.
Here is another closeup of all the colors mixing together.  Lovely, isn't it?  But we still are not finished.
Spray the entire background with Radiant Rain Pearl Blue shimmering mist.
This made the colors run and pool and "marbleize"  Ahh, now I am in love.  Set this aside to dry while we color some chipboard embellishments from Gina's Designs.
Paint "create" with Cinnamon Brown Silks.

Paint edges of "create" with a mix of Emperor's Gold Silks and Sunflower PE to give it that gorgeous metal look.  No other binders are needed with the PE because the Silks act as the binder for this technique.

Paint gears with the same combination of Emperor's Gold and Sunflower PE.
Look at that awesome texture, and how it really looks like metal bits.
When dry, paint a few of the gears with Nutmeg Silks to give them a copper look.
Paint the chipboard hand with Ginger Peach Silks and Sunflower PE.  When dry, edge with Nutmeg Silks to grunge it up a bit.

Paint bird body with Ocean Wave Silks.  Use your finger to dab a thicker coat of Ocean Wave onto the upper part of the bird's body and tail, giving some texture and depth. Color bird beak and feet with Emperor's Gold Silks mixed with Sunflower PE.

Paint light bulb with Yellow Rose Silks.  Mix gum arabic with Copper Penny PE and paint bottom portion of light bulb.  Adhere light bulb wire to large light bulb  and adhere each the base.  When the paint is dry, I gave my little birdie an eye by first dabbing a white paint pen on his head, then added black pen lines around that.  You can see it in the closeup photos below.

Add chipboard pieces to the base, as shown in the finished photo above, using Beacon 3-in-1 glue.  One last thing I did was to add a bit more purple and blue onto the background.  I did this my first dipping my finger into each jar of Ginger Flower PE an Mediterranean Blue PE, and dabbing some of the pigment onto the surface.  Then, I sprayed the entire background with Green Pearl shimmering mist.  This not only allowed the pigment to "move", but also acts as a fixative to prevent it from rubbing off, all the while adding a bit more shimmer to the piece.

And now, for a few closeups.
