Hello chippie fans. So glad you stopped by today, because I have a really "fun in the sun" related project for you. I love this Beach Shape Set from Gina's Designs Lasercuts, and I just knew I had to make a wall hanging of some sort for Summer. Not interested in making a wall hanging? Well, can you just see these in your summer vacation scrapbook pages? They would be truly awesome!
After choosing my chipboard pieces, I painted them all with white gesso and let dry. My final layout changed a bit, but this was a good start.
I painted the open circle piece with Vintage Mustard chalk ink and let dry. Then I spritzed it with ColourArte Pink Grapefruit Shimmering Mist and water to let it spread and blend. Set aside to dry.
Next, I began work on the anchor chipboard piece. I added some dimensional designs to it with the Scribbles black 3D paint. Any color can be used for this part because it will ultimately get covered up.
When that paint dried, I was able to gesso over the lines. I painted the whole anchor with English Red Oxide acrylic paint. Then, to make it really rusty, I brushed on gel medium and sprinkled the Stampendous Rust embossing powder over it, heat setting with my heat gun. (See closeup below).
Lay mesh drywall tape over lighthouse chipboard and spread light molding paste over it.
Remove tape and let dry.
Paint lighthouse with white acrylic paint and add a very light wash of water and black acrylic paint. Paint the tower and shed with Cadmium Red mixed with Burnt Umber.
The colors used on each chipboard piece are listed below.
Open circle chipboard - Vintage Mustard chalk paint, Pink Grapefruit Shimmering Mist, water
Large anchor chipboard - English Red Oxide, covered with Rust Embossing Powder and Elements
Starfish - Cadmium Red Hue acrylic paint & Pink Grapefruit Shimmer Mist
Clam Shells - Quinacridone Violet wash, Cadmium Red Hue & Pink Grapefruit Shimmer Mist
Lobsters - Cadmium Red Hue mixed with Burnt Umber
Adirondack chair - Burnt Umber wash
Life Preserver - Titanium white, Cadmium Red Hue, Burnt Umber wash
Nautilus shells - Cerulean Blue
Sand Dollars - Namorado shimmer mist
Grass & Foilage - Yellow Ochre, Olive Pastel, and Chestnut Roan chalk ink
Relax - Cerulean Blue and Turquoise glass glitter
Turquoise glass glitter was added to the word "Relax" and as accents around the shells at the bottom. I glued the netting to the back of the open circle, adding a few shells to the net to appear as if they were caught in it. The sisal was added to the anchor, as shown.
