Altered Shoe Blog Hop with ColourArte

Hey there ColourArte-ists!  So glad you stopped by today, because you are in for some real fun!  The ColourArte design team is having an Altered Shoe Blog Hop, so believe me when I say, there is going to be some interesting things to see along the way, I am sure.  If you want to start the hop at the beginning, please click here at the ColourArte blog.
There will be prizes to win from each blog, so be sure to read all the details at the end of my post.

I love birds and flowers and gardens, so, here is my pair of altered shoes, complete with birds, nests, flowers, wings and feathers.
They started life like this.  Not bad, a nice suede canvas to work with.
Scrub the Radiant Gels Guatemalan Green dimensional paint into the suede on each shoe and allow to dry.  Give the shoes a second coat with Silks African Jade acrylic glaze.
Scrub Fire Opal Silks Acrylic Glaze onto the platform portion of each shoe (left shoe), then cover that with Wine & Roses Silks (right shoe).
Paint the heels with two coats of the Silks Wine & Roses.  In the picture below, it may appear there are two different colors on each shoe, but it is how the light was reflected.  I think these paints are awesome they way they change.  So beautiful.
Add gold metal diamond-shaped studs around the platform.
Glue black trim around the top edge of the shoes.

Die cut two sets of wings from gold handmade paper, and two sets of silver handmade paper.  Emboss with matching embossing folder.  Layer two sets, beginning with the gold paper, then silver, then gold.  Save the second set for another project.   Hit the high spots on each gold wing layer with a light wash of Silks Wine & Roses, just leaving a hint of color.  Glue each set of wings to the heel portion.
I used verdigris hinges to cover the join of the feathers, some jewelry leaves.
I added a decorative metal strip, a filigree metal piece, thread the chain through a metal bead and adhered it so I could get this nice dangly effect.
Die cut two antique handles from grunge paper and emboss with matching embossing folder.  Scrub Silks Bolivian Blue and Kiwi on the grunge paper handles.  Hit the high spots with Cosmic Copper ink pad.
Die cut two bird branches  and two extra birds from grunge paper.  Cover each with white gesso.  Color branch with Silks Cinnamon Brown, Birds with Silks Azurite, a mix of Silks Sunflower and Cinnamon Brown to the beaks, and a mix of Silks Sunflower and Nutmeg for the legs.  Adhere to the outside of the shoes.
A tiny bird's nest and feathers were added over the grunge paper antique handle, with a tiny bird sitting in the nest.
I used some print scrapbook paper inside the shoe to cover the insole.  Some excelsior, fabric flowers, and berry vines were also added inside the shoe.  I wanted it to look like a little garden fit for birds.
Just a few closeups.  I really love how these turned out.

Hello chippie fans.  So glad you stopped by today, because I have a really "fun in the sun" related project for you.  I love this Beach Shape Set from Gina's Designs Lasercuts, and I just knew I had to make a wall hanging of some sort for Summer.  Not interested in making a wall hanging?  Well, can you just see these in your summer vacation scrapbook pages?  They would be truly awesome!

After choosing my chipboard pieces, I painted them all with white gesso and let dry.  My final layout changed a bit, but this was a good start.
I painted the open circle piece with Vintage Mustard chalk ink and let dry.  Then I spritzed it with ColourArte Pink Grapefruit Shimmering Mist and water to let it spread and blend. Set aside to dry.

Next, I began work on the anchor chipboard piece.  I added some dimensional designs to it with the Scribbles black 3D paint.  Any color can be used for this part because it will ultimately get covered up.
When that paint dried, I was able to gesso over the lines.  I painted the whole anchor with English Red Oxide acrylic paint.  Then, to make it really rusty, I brushed on gel medium and sprinkled the Stampendous Rust embossing powder over it, heat setting with my heat gun.  (See closeup below).
Lay mesh drywall tape over lighthouse chipboard and spread light molding paste over it.
 Remove tape and let dry.
Paint lighthouse with white acrylic paint and add a very light wash of water and black acrylic paint.  Paint the tower and shed with Cadmium Red mixed with Burnt Umber.
The colors used on each chipboard piece are listed below.

Open circle chipboard - Vintage Mustard chalk paint, Pink Grapefruit Shimmering Mist, water
Large anchor chipboard - English Red Oxide, covered with Rust Embossing Powder and Elements
Starfish - Cadmium Red Hue acrylic paint & Pink Grapefruit Shimmer Mist
Clam Shells - Quinacridone Violet wash, Cadmium Red Hue & Pink Grapefruit Shimmer Mist
Lobsters - Cadmium Red Hue mixed with Burnt Umber
Adirondack chair - Burnt Umber wash
Life Preserver - Titanium white,  Cadmium Red Hue, Burnt Umber wash
Nautilus shells - Cerulean Blue
Sand Dollars - Namorado shimmer mist
Grass & Foilage - Yellow Ochre, Olive Pastel, and Chestnut Roan chalk ink
Relax - Cerulean Blue and Turquoise glass glitter

Turquoise glass glitter was added to the word "Relax" and as accents around the shells at the bottom.  I glued the netting to the back of the open circle, adding a few shells to the net to appear as if they were caught in it.  The sisal was added to the anchor, as shown.

Supplies used:

Gina's Designs Lasercuts:  Beach Shape Set; Grass & Foliage
ColourArte:  Radiant Rains Shimmering Mists:  Pink Grapefruit; Namorado
DecoArt fluid acrylic paints:  Titanium white,  Cadmium Red Hue, Burnt Umber, Cerulean Blue, Quinacridone Violet, Carbon Black

Open circle shaped chipboard (Hobby Lobby)

Mesh drywall tape
3D Paint (Scribbles)

Mixed Media Fall Wall Hanging

Hello everyone.  Barbara here with Altered Pages.  Are you thinking of Fall yet, with its crisper, cooler air and beautiful colors?  Let's face it, when it is freezing cold outside, we long for Spring and Summer.  When it gets unbearably hot, we long for the cold.  We are a funny creatures.  In any case, we have been sharing everything Fall-related here at Altered Pages.

I decided to make a wall hanging to display in anticipation of the coming of Fall.

Supplies used:

Falling for Fall collage sheet
Adhesive Corrugated
White gesso
Mix'd Media Inx pads: Leather, Adobe, Vintage, Mossy
VersaMark ink pad
Scroll corners
Serviette Papers
Bottle caps
Adhesive Dimensionals
Glue Stick
Aleene's Tacky Glue
Double Side Tape Mini
1/2 inch Olive Green Flat Jute
Metal corners (Retired Mailbox Muse kit)
Black card stock
DecoArt Media Mister - Carbon Black
Clear embossing powder
Leaf punch
1" Circle punch

To begin, adhere 6" x 6" Adhesive Corrugated to a piece of mat board for support.  Paint high spots of corrugations with white gesso, let dry.
Apply Adobe and Mossy Mix'd Media ink to corrugate.  Spritz with water and heat dry.
Add Leather Mix'd Media ink to corrugate, spritz with water and heat dry.
Mist lightly with DecoArt Media Mister - Carbon Black, mist with water and heat dry.
Ink chipboard scroll with Mix'd Media Ink (MMI) Vintage and emboss with clear embossing powder (EP).  Lightly dab MMI Adobe onto it and  heat emboss with a second coat of clear EP.
Punch a 1" circle from small red leaves image and flatten a bottle cap.
Ink punched circle with Versamark ink and emboss with clear embossing powder.  Adhere a piece of chipboard to inside of bottle cap.
Adhere embossed print image over chipboard on bottle cap.
Punch leaves from Serviette papers.
Use a sponge to ink leaves with the Mix'd Media ink pads in Vintage, Adobe, and Mossy.  Heat set.
Print leaf background image large enough to use as a background and trim to size (approximately 3-1/2" x 5-1/2").  Layer onto slightly larger piece of black card stock.

Adhere Happy Fall image to slightly larger piece of black card stock.  Adhere all pieces to background, as shown in finished photo above.

Adhere a length of 1/2 inch Olive Green Flat Jute to the back to use as a hanger.  Punch a hole through corrugate and insert Light bulb safety pin through each end.  (The glue is actually holding the jute, the pins are merely decorative).
Add metal corners to each corner to finish it off.

I hope you enjoyed this project, and perhaps you want to make one for yourself.  Be sure to stop by Altered Pages to check on all the fun things you can use to put one of your very own together.

Thanks for stopping by, and have a wonderful week!

Barbara
