Mixed Media Tag with Stencil 1: Without Change

Yes, Stencil 1 makes some really fabulous stencils, not only individually, but also in sets.  I hope you will visit them and check out what they offer.

Stencils are so much fun and quite addictive.  Today, I want to share a quick and easy project using a postcard tag, stencils, paints, and inks.

I chose this postcard tag from Altered Pages and my Stencil 1 butterfly stencil.

Tear strips of paper and adhere to the back (blank side) of the tag with gel medium, let dry.

Add a wash of white gesso over the tag to tie the background together.

Spread Orchid Velvet Art Anthology dimensional paint with a spatula through the open butterfly stencil.  Let dry.

Sponge white gesso through detail stencil and let dry.

Apply light blue oil pastel through the detail stencil and smudge over the butterfly with your finger.

Use a water brush to pick up color from the Mica Paint Palette and make washes of beautiful color.  Use an ultra fine mist sprayer to wet the tag and help the colors move and run, and use a heat tool to dry as you add more and more colors until you like the background.

Add stunning details to the image by applying a black Faber-Castell Big Brush Pen through the detail stencil and rub gently with your finger to spread the color before the pen ink dries.  This makes the color look less like pen work and more like a blended detail.

Here is a close up of the butterflies.  Notice the bubbles on them?  This was actually a happy accident, which occurred while I was drying the mica paints.  I liked it so much that I continued to make the Art Anthology paint bubble more for a fabulous effect.  What do you think?

Add black ink around the edges of the tag to frame the piece.

On a scrap piece of chipboard, stamp the phrase using a StazOn Black Ink Pad.  Cut the image in half, inking all edges of each piece with black ink, and adhere to the tag.  Add some jute string to the tag hole and you are done.

Snowflake Card: Day 4: Unruly Paper Arts 12 Days of Christmas Link Up Party

Hello everyone.  So glad you stopped by today, because I want to share another fast but elegant Christmas card with you for Day 4 of the Unruly Paper Arts 12 Days of Christmas Link Up Party.

I would also like to enter this into the Cheery Lynn Designs Challenge #161 - 'Tis the Season.

Make 4-3/4" x 6" side folded card from cream sparkle card stock.

Die cut blue metallic card stock with Cathedral Lace Frame. Adhere to card front.

Die cut chipboard with snowflake, emboss with matching embossing folder.

Paint snowflake white, then lightly sponge on weathered wood.  Spread a very light coat of Crystal Stickles over all.  Let dry.

Adhere snowflake, flowers, and butterflies to card front.

My project is an apothecary jar that holds some pretty creepy ingredients!

I began this project with an empty plastic bottle.  It had square sides, which is going to make it easy to adhere collage images, and stands approximately 6-1/2" high, including the cap.  I decided to first cover the bottle with paper before applying the different mediums.

Trim Mechanical Marvels paper to 5-1/2" x 12".  Apply adhesive to reverse side with a Xyron or other dry adhesive.  (Tip:  Even though I did not use them for this project, I had room to run a border piece through my Xyron, so instead of wasting adhesive, I punched a couple of spider web borders from Graveyard Black card stock and applied adhesive to those strips, too!)

Adhere print paper to bottle.

Brush on a light coat of the white gesso, leaving some of the paper visible.  Allow gesso to dry.

Lay the Art Anthology (AA) Kaleidoscope stencil over one side and mist lightly with the AA Waimea Bay Colorations Spray.

Dab excess spray with a paper towel, then continue around the bottle, stenciling all four sides.

Pounce AA Kenyan Copper Sorbet paint through the stencil on all four sides.  Use a light touch and a fairly dry brush so you don't get a lot of bleed through.

Here is a closeup of one of the sides showing the color variations, and I hope you can see the beautiful glittery shimmer from the Copper.  It is so pretty!

I spritzed lightly with black Dylusions spray and dabbed off the excess with a paper towel.  It toned everything down a bit.

Layer a thick coat of  AA Limeaid and Red Velvet Cake Sorbet acrylic paints with your finger or a silly stick, pouncing up and down to get that great dimension.  The paint is still wet in this photo, and as you will see in the remaining photos, it changes quite a bit.

I applied white gesso to the jar lid, and when dry, again dabbed on a coat of the AA Limeaid dimensional paint.  It mixed a bit with the white gesso for a lighter look.  When that dried, dabbed Orange Zest StazOn randomly, then I hit the high spots with Black StazOn to get this awesome, ooooey gooey look.

I cut out the witch image and adhered it to a piece of fun foam, then adhered that to the bottle. I used the Faber-Castell black Big Brush Pen to edge my collage image.

To make the tag, I first printed out the Gross Halloween Food Labels onto a piece of orange print paper.  Then I added a very light coat of 3D Crystal Lacquer to an acrylic tag and adhered it directly over the label I wanted to use.

When dry, I cut it out and punched the hole out with an awl or paper piercer.  I hung it from the jar with a piece of gray jute wrapped around the neck of the jar.

I made Halloween flowers from black netting that was holding produce by rolling it up lengthwise, tying black jute around it every couple of inches, and trimming off just below the jute.  When I spread the top open, I got these wonderful, spiky flowers perfect for Halloween.

A couple of close-up photos to show off some of the details.  Here is that luscious texture I got from those luscious AA dimension acrylics.  I applied Memento Luxe Wedding Dress ink pad directly to the high spots to bring out that fabulous texture.

Well, I seem to be on a roll making Halloween cards.  I just love them.  I had this cool stamp from the Altered Pages Mailbox Muse and have been dying to use it. 

Trim graveyard black card stock to 10" x 6-1/2", fold in half to make 5" x 6-1/2" card.

Trim purple damask print paper (Botanical Odyssey) just slightly smaller than the card.  Paint edge of paper with a thick line of AA Imperial (purple) paint.  This paint dries dimensional, so it looks like you heat embossed the edge with embossing powder.  

Die cut the largest accent tag from the yellow polka dot paper (Check-In paper) and highlight the embossed areas and around the perimeter by leaving the paper inside the die and inking with Milled Lavender distress ink through the die.  

Stamp stack of skulls image onto the accent tag with Gothic Purple StazOn.  I used a stamp positioner to ensure accuracy.

Make a mini rosette from purple multi-stripe paper (Botanical Odyssey) and ink edges with Milled Lavender ink.  Adhere Raven rhinestone to center.

Paint a chip tag with white gesso.  When dry, ink "Something Creepy for You" stamp with Versamark ink and black embossing powder.

Paint with Art Anthology Imperial dimensional acrylic paint.

Add a 4" ball chain through tag, and wrap around a foam dot placed where your rosette will be adhered.

Attach rosette to pop dot, and color giant rhinestone with a purple alcohol marker.

Lastly, I added black bling to the artisan tag, as shown in the finished photo.
