Well, I seem to be on a roll with my journal card making.  Here is another simple one, but I think it is pretty effective.  I love my Distress Crackle Paints (the ones that are still  fluid enough to use, that is).    If you've been following along, I've been making journal cards to place inside my still undecorated mini album.  Click here to see my previous post.  Here's another one of my journal cards to add.

My journal cards measure a mere 3" x 5", so I cut a piece of the Graphic 45 print paper with pumpkins on it to slightly smaller than my journal card.  I rounded the corners and adhered it.

I stamped the skeleton and "get Ghoulish!" directly onto the print paper with Versamark ink and detail white embossing powder.  

After cutting the pumpkins  with the Tim Holtz die, and removing part of the pumpkin on the second (right) one, just to make them look different, I added Spiced Marmalde crackle distress paint over the bottom of the pumpkin. While the paint was still wet, I used my paper piercer to make the lines in the pumpkin.  

After the paint dried, I added the Walnut Stain distress ink over the pumpkin to bring out the cracks, and to the stem.  I adhered them to the bottom of my journal card, as shown.

Today I want to share a fun card I made.

Stamp dress onto white CS and color with Copic markers.  Use Labels 14 to cut out the dress image.  Use Twisted Metal Tags and Accents die to cut out the yellow CS.  Leave yellow CS in the die and add Seedless Preserves distress ink through die openings.

 Here are all the pieces you will need to put your card together.  "Haunt Couture" was stamped onto yellow die cut Fancy Tags 3.  Leave yellow CS in the die and add Seedless Preserves distress ink through die openings.

Layer Stampin' Up print paper onto yellow CS, then onto black card.  Add frame, pop dot the inside piece with the dress image, and pop dot the label.  Add a gold swirl gem sticker, as shown.  Easy peasy!

My project today is a free-standing home decor piece.  I thought this would be a fun little item to sit on your desk, too, and maybe add an October calendar on it to count down the days til Halloween.

 Trace chipboard pennant onto two print papers; cut out and adhere to both sides.  Trim edges.

Stamp and heat emboss flourish grid onto front with Versamark and black embossing powder.

Apply Distress Inks in Dusty Concord, Evergreen Bough, and Spiced Marmalade over front.  Edge with Dusty Concord.

Cut piece of chipboard to 3-3/4" x 6", cover both sides with same print paper used on the back of the pennant.  Cut out with small easel die.  I knew I would find a use for this die!

This will be attached to the back later.  If you don't have one of these dies, you can purchase ready made stick on easels at your local craft store, usually in their framing department.

Fussy cut lady with owl on head from collage sheet, carefully ink edges with black Big Brush pen.

Cut "Beware!", raven, and black cat from black CS and ghost from grey CS.  Add blue Inktense colors to the raven.  You know how their black feathers have that blue-ish glow to them in the light.  Add white Inktense color to the ghost in a streaky fashion.

Add Versamark ink to the front of "Beware!" and brush on Wisteria, Purple and Jade Pearl-Ex powders.  The Versamark will grab the powders and bond them to the paper.

Adhere die cut pieces to chipboard, as shown in finished photo above.  I shaped the bird a bit and used a foam dot to raise him up a bit.  I also used foam dots to raise the lady.

To adhere the easel to the back, first adhere double sided tape to it, as shown.

 Center that taped strip on the back of the chipboard.

 Here is a side view of it in its opened position.

Today's project is a continuation of the mini album that holds journal cards from yesterday's post.  So, I made this quick and easy journal card for another pocket in my album.

Stamp bats background over journal card with black StazOn.

Cut corner web using Silhouette.  Adhere to top corner of journal card and cover with Lime Green Stickles glitter glue.  I also smeared some Wild Honey distress ink over the background to break up the single orange color.

(TIP:  I found the best way to adhere these delicate die cuts is to use a ZIG 2 way squeeze and roll glue pen.  It has a ball point, like in a ball point pen, and dries tacky and removable, allowing you lots of time to adhere the glue to those delicate areas.  So, no hurrying involved.  If you apply it while it is wet, it adheres permanently.)

Cut a frame from black CS using the HOTP middle frame die.  Add a coat of Frayed Burlap Distress Crackle Paint and let dry.  Add Black Soot distress ink to frame to bring out the cracks.  Looking pretty grungy now, isn't it?

Adhere to collage image and trim excess, then adhere framed image to journal card.  Normally, I would pop dot this but I need it to fit inside the pocket, so no dimensionalizing on these. I have a solution, though, in the next step.

Adhere to journal card.  Use a charcoal pencil and blending stump around the frame, blend out to give the dimension needed.  It makes the image pop off the page without adding thickness.  (See finished photo above).

My next project is a journal card-holding mini album from my Silhouette cut file.  This pic shows it put together and covered with the MME papers.  I used mini magnets to keep it closed.

 Here it is, spread open with the help of my creepy friend!

It will be a continuation throughout the month, as I fill it with more journal cards and embellish the pages.  Each day I will show you another "piece" of it until it is completed.

Each journal card measures 3"x5".  You could certainly make your own, but using the Silhouette just made it quicker and easier.  Here is my first journal card using a paper piecing technique.

I first stamped the moonlight witch with black StazOn ink onto yellow and grey CS.

I used a 1-3/4" circle punch to cut out the moon and adhered, aligning it with the bat's wings and witch.  I also stamped the image directly onto the journal card.  Next, I fussy cut witch on grey paper, and the broom on a separate scrap of grey paper.  Layer those, as shown.

I wanted to do something a bit different with my embossing folder, so I embossed it onto a piece of grey CS, hit the high spots with the black StazOn, which helped me to see where to fussy cut it out.

Add white pearl Pan Pastel on the journal card from the bottom up to about mid point before layering the graveyard scene at the bottom of the journal card.  It gives it that feeling of spooky mist in the graveyard.

Stamp "Life's a witch, then you fly!" onto white scrap paper with black StazOn.  Color with Peeled Paint, then cut each word out in a funky fashion, edging with Black Soot, and layered onto journal card.

Daisy Days Blog Hop with The Robin's Nest

Obviously, the theme for our blog hop is daisies.  Therefore, I decided to add a ton of daisies to my altered wooden birdhouse.  This is just a flat, laser cut, wooden shape that would make a wonderful Spring addition to your home decor.  

Below is a picture of the bare wooden shape.

1.  Paint edges of birdhouse with acrylic paint.  

2.  Trace, trim, and adhere Red Glitter Sorbet CS to cover the top portion of the birdhouse, as shown.  Ink edges with Festive Berries distress stain.

3.  Trace, trim, and adhere Kiwi Glitter Sorbet CS to cover the bottom portion of the birdhouse, as shown.  Ink edges with Shabby Shutters distress stain.

4.  Trace, trim, and adhere Blue Raspberry Glitter Sorbet CS to cover the birds on each side of the birdhouse, as shown. 

Round his little body at the bottom.  Ink edges with Faded Jeans distress ink.  (NOTE:  Turn bird house over, right side down, on top of reverse, unglittered side of CS.  That way, your pencil marks will not show.)  Add two mini dew drops from the Halloween collection for eyes.

 5.  Trim 1/2" strips of chipboard and glue to top edge of roof.  Miter the top corner.

 6.  Edge punch 1" strips of  Shocking Pink Glitter Sorbet CS.  Ink edges with Festive Berries distress stain (or ink).  Glue to chipboard strips.  Miter the top corner.

7.  My birds need a way into their home, so I found these wooden shapes at Michaels.  I believe this one is a thought bubble, but I saw it as a cute hole for my bird house.  All I had to do was trim away the excess with a craft knife.

8.  Ink the opening with Shabby Shutters distress ink and glue to center of bird house.

9.  Adhere yellow diamond drops from the Sunset collection to the roof, as shown.

10.  To make tiny wings for the birds, punch a scrap of Aquamarine Glitter Sorbet CS with a small oval punch.  Cut in half diagonally, trim one of the sharp corners.   

Adhere to each blue bird with a 3D glue dot or foam dot. 

 11.  Paint wooden bird on branch image with Distress inks in Faded Jeans, Shabby Shutters, Forest Moss, and Walnut Stain.  I used a small brush to paint the branch, leaves, beak, and feet.  

12.  Glue wooden bird to bird house opening. 

 13.  Die cut fence piece from chipboard. Paint with light ivory acrylic paint.  Distress with sanding block.  Adhere fence piece to bottom of bird house, as shown.

To make the daisies:

14.  Color a 12"x12" piece of Leopard Silver Glitter Print CS using multiple colors of distress ink, as shown.

15.  Die cut multiple sizes of daisies with the bloom nesting die.  Fold and manipulate each petal before layering each progressively smaller petal and offsetting the petals for more fullness.  

16.  Arrange flowers and leaves as desired.  Add amber and yellow dew drops from Halloween collection to flower centers.  I also added a black dew drop to the wooden bird's eye.
