Quick and Easy Cards with Craftwell USA eBrush

Hello everyone!  This month, the Craftwell USA eBrush design team is stepping outside their comfort zone and making something new to their own individual style.   I chose to make a couple of cards, clean and simple (CAS), and ever so easy.  This was definitely not what I am used to making.  So, here goes.

To start,  made a paperclay stamped image, trimmed around the edges, and allowed it to dry.  I had a second clay-molded Eiffel Tower that was ready to use and waiting for the right time.  

While that was drying, I started working on my background papers.  I chose these two Teresa Collins embossing folders and ran them through my die cutting machine using glossy white card stock.  The one on the left is the Swirltangle embossing folder, while the smaller one on the right is from Teresa's Timeless collection.

I trimmed a couple of sections from the Swirltangle embossing folder.  My clay pieces are dry and ready for color, too.

With the Timeless embossed piece, I first colored the background with Y32 and BV01.  I kept the center light so my focal image would pop.

Next, I eBrushed the Eiffel Tower molded piece made from the Lumina clay with B24 Sky.  I darkened some areas by simply keeping the eBrush color in one spot.  You can get lots of definition using just one marker.

I layered a piece of yellow print paper , then my embossed background, then the Eiffel Tower piece.  I used some matching blue chalk ink to stamp "Paris" over the banner.  

For my next card, I used one of the smaller embossed pieces cut from the Swirltangle embossing folder.  I eBrushed the entire background with B52, deepening the edges and leaving the center lighter.

Next, eBrush a light coat of YG06 over the background.  I also edged it with brown distress ink.

eBrush the Paperclay rubber stamped piece with R32.

eBrush YR24 Pale Sepia around the edge for a bit of aging.

Add brown distress ink pad direct to the Paperclay to hit only the high spots and edge the sides to bring out the rough texture.  It makes it look like an ancient artifact.

Layer a piece of matching print paper, then adhere the embossed paper, then the stamped clay tile.

For my sentiment, I used another label piece from the Swirltangle embossing folder, colored it to match the previous embossed square, and added the "Go For It clear sticker.

Bluebirds and Butterflies Card with Sin City Stamps

Hello all!  I have a really pretty vintage style card to share with you today using two of Terri Sproul's new stamp sets from Sin City Stamps.

Stamp image onto slick white card stock with black StazOn or any permanent ink.

Paint the birds, nest, flowers and leaves with Twinkling H20s in Burnt Umber, Pink Azalea, Ocean Wave, and Moss Green.  The best way to activate the "twinks" is to spritz water into each pot and let them sit for a few minutes.

I wanted to age the paper, so I used a blending tool to add Antique Linen distress ink to the white card stock.

Here is a close up of the coloring with the antiqued background.

Next, I layered this piece onto a pink card stock layer, then onto a dark green card stock layer.  I left the tiniest border of each color around the image.  Then I die cuts a piece of tan card stock with the Fancy Tags die, and before removing the paper from the die, I used the blending tool to add more Antique Linen distress ink to it.

When I removed the die, the tag now has this nice, aged look and highlights.

I adhered the stamped piece slightly off center of a 5"x7" periwinkle blue card base, and I cut the tag in half, adhering each half to the sides of the stamped image, as shown.

Die cut a branch from brown mat board with the bird branch die and adhere to the card front above the nest image.

Add some paper flowers to the left side, covering the edge of the branch.

Punch several leaves from the dark green card stock scrap, and paint with the Moss Green Twinkling H20s.

Adhere the leaves around the flower bouquet, and cut leaves apart to add to the branches.

The give my card a nice balance, I decided to stamp two butterflies from the Terri Sproul's Wish stamp set with black StazOn ink.  I used the Pink Azalea, Ocean Wave, and Moss Green twinks to color them.  Then I fussy cut them out, shaped their wings and adhered to the right hand side of my card.  I added Amber glitter liner to their butterfly bodies.

House of Cards March 2015 Challenge - Enamel Dots

Hello everyone, and welcome back to a new monthly challenge here at House of Cards.  I so enjoy seeing all the creations each month, not only from the design team, but also from you, the challenge participants.

This month's challenge is ...

There are many videos out there showing how to make your own enamel dots using pony and perler beads.  Here is a youtube video by Brittany H showing just how to do this.  I made a bunch of different sizes and colors to have on hand using Brittany's directions.  And check out how my fellow design team member, Lillian, shows you another way to make your own enamel dots. The fun just doesn't end.

And here is my inspiration card for this month's challenge.

Fold Kraft card stock in half to make 5" x7" card.  Trim blue print layer to 4-1/2" x 6-1/2".  Distress edges.  I used my Distress-It-All tool, but use whatever tool you have to do this.  Apply Mowed Lawn DS around edges, then blend with blending tool and adhere to card front.

Trim Music print layer to 1-1/2" by 6-1/2".  Dry emboss with chain embossing folder.  Distress edges.  Apply Gathered Twigs DS around edges, blend with blending tool and adhere to left side of card front.

Color seam binding with Mowed Lawn and water.  Adhere strip around top edge of print layer.  Make a single loop bow from a second piece and adhere to card, as shown, adding paper butterfly over bow center.

Cut out sentiment from paper pad, edge with Gathered Twigs DS and adhere to upper right of card front.

Die cut large medallion from a piece of pink print paper, and the small medallion from the green print paper. Add a bit of the Mowed Lawn DS over the small medallion. Adhere small medallion to center of large medallion, adhere to lower half of card front.

Cover the chipboard dress form with Tarnished Brass DP, add the Verdigris embossing powder to it while still wet.  Heat the embossing powder.  I liked that some of the brass color showed through, so I left it with the one coat of embossing powder.  Adhere to lower right with foam dots.  Add cream colored enamel dots along bottom edge.

Add a spray of various flowers to the left side, adding a large pink enamel dot in the center of the largest flower.

For more bling, I added light blue enamel dots at the four corners of the large medallion, and tan enamel dots at the corners of the sentiment.  How fun is this?

Shabby Style New Year's Card with Sin City Stamps

Happy New Year, everyone!  Are you ready for a fantastic year?  I know I am.

I decided to make a card with elements that I feel represent a year's passing.  The wings represent how time flies, while the clock hands and gears are parts of that fast-moving clock that seems to never slow down.  And of course, the Roman numerals represent the year, 2015.

Cut tan card stock to 6" x 12", fold in half to make a 6"x 6" top folded card.

Adhere 5-3/4" x 5-3/4" print paper to card front, edging with similar colors of ink to match the paper colors.

Stamp Roman numerals, as shown.  You will need two "III", an "X" and a "V".

To change the "III"s to M's to represent each 1,000 years, I used post-it notes to mask areas of the "III" and stamped the bottom of the "V" between each "I I I" to turn it into an "M".

Fussy cut the Roman numerals and adhere to card front.

Stamp wings from the Sin City Wings stamp set twice onto scrap tan card stock and fussy cut each.

Layer wings onto card, lifting the top pair of wings with pop dots.

Stamp small clock hand onto scrap tan card stock, fussy cut and adhere to center of wings with more pop dots.  Add Stickles glitter glue to wings (Antique Linen) and clock hand (Vintage Photo).

I wanted a bit more shabbiness, so I added splotches of Frayed Burlap distress crackle paint.

After it dried, I added some Vintage Photo distress stain to bring out the cracks, and then some metal gears to the bottom splotch and to the bottom of the clock hand.

Tropical Beach Peek-a-Boo Interactive Card

 

Timeless Twine

Hi everyone.  Barbara here with my first post for June.   I hope everyone is enjoying their summer weather, which prompted me to use this gorgeous palm tree paper from the Beach Collection.  I have wanted to use it from the moment I saw it, but I needed the weather to warm up to get me in the right mood.  That's just me, though.  I have trouble making Christmas cards in July, too.

We are also teaming up with Timeless Twine, which I have to admit works really well with my beach themed card this month.  This card is very easy to make, so please don't let my tutorial scare you.  I discovered this similar card  by Dawn Griffith on YouTube.  She called it a peek-a-boo card, and I cannot think of a better description, so that's what I am calling it, too.  I changed my card up just a bit, but the workings are the same.

Supplies used:

Palm Tree Glitter Cardstock (The Robin's Nest)
Beach Sticker (The Robin's Nest)
Natural Large Starfish (The Robin's Nest)
Fishnet (The Robin's Nest)
Amber Diamond Shaped Dew Drops (The Robin's Nest)
Ruby Red Diamond Shaped Dew Drops (The Robin's Nest)
Palm Tree Rub-On (The Robin's Nest)
Timeless Twine by Bella Creationz
Tan Card Stock (CS)
1-3/8" square punch
1/4" miracle tape

Directions:

Cut tan CS to measure 5-1/2" x 11".  Score at 3-1/2" and 7".   Fold score lines to look like this.  Side C will be the very outside back of your card.

Cut a piece of Palm Tree Glitter CS to measure 6-1/4" x 5-1/2".  I chose this section from my 12"x12" piece of paper.

Score at 4-1/4" along the 6-1/4" side.  Fold score to look like this.

Fold flap to front temporarily to use as a guide.  (NOTE:  This paper is double sided, so you are seeing the reverse print in the photo).  Slide square punch as far as it will go from the bottom edge, line up one edge of the punch with the flap, and punch out the window without punching the flap.  Turn flap back to the inside.  

Use this piece as a guide to punch another window in the tan CS on the reverse of side A, as shown.

Your two pieces will look like this, and yes, the front score line does not match the reverse of side A score line.  This is part of the mechanics of how the card works.

To make your next window, fold the reverse of A towards side B and align and punch a square window in side B, using  the opening in A as your guide.

Fold reverse of B towards reverse of C and mark opening lightly with a pencil.

Punch out desired section of waves from the Beach Sticker sheet, as shown.  

 

Adhere waves sticker over penciled in area on reverse of C.

Punch a second image from the shells portion of the Beach Sticker sheet and adhere the sticker on the  back flap, using the window opening on the card front as a guide.  

Adhere double-sided adhesive along the inside edge on reverse of side C, and around the edges and window opening on the reverse of side A, as shown in the photo.

Adhere the card front (printed piece) over the tan CS, as shown below. (NOTE: There should be a strip of adhesive along the fold on the reverse of side C in this picture, as shown above).  Fold reverse of side C over reverse of side B, which will adhere this piece only along the fold, but leaving the small flap on the card front free.

Watch the window in the next three pictures.  Here, you see the shells sticker starting to cover the waves sticker.

As you continue to open the card, the flap reveals more of the shells sticker in the window.

And here, the card is opened completely, and you are looking at the inside of the card.  The shells sticker is completely covering the sticker below it.  Peek-a-boo!

To finish off the card front, I glued a small piece of fish net along the upper left edge by adding tiny dots of Fabri-tac glue on the knots.  I also used Fabri-tac to glue the starfish down.  I added the Tropical Breezes rub-on above the window opening, and to make it all work together, I added red and amber diamond shaped dew drops around the window.  I love how the dew drops remind me of the quilt patterns I saw everywhere in Hawaii.  Then I wrapped red Timeless Twine around the spine and tied two tiny shells to each end.  I love the movement it adds.  Here it is again (so you don't have to scroll back to the top):

Wow, that was a long tutorial, but I hope I was able to simplify it a bit for you.  For your first try at this, I would suggest penciling A, B, C to indicate one side, and AR, BR, CR to indicate the reverse sides.  I believe it would help you when referring to the photos.
