Take a Trip Mini Album with Altered Pages: Part Two

Hello everyone! As you know, the Altered Pages design team are taking trips throughout the USA this month.  The team has chosen two states to feature, and I chose California and Florida for my posts this month.  My first post featured California, but today, I am going to go with the beachy theme, so Florida it is!

I am continuing to work in my metal covered mini album that I made a couple of months ago.  I still have lots of blank pages to work in, and like I said before, Altered Pages is my go to store for dressing up my mini album pages.

My first page spread:  Background papers are from the Glitz Designs Pretty in Pink paper pad.  I used the Brighton Beach and Vintage Vacations collage images, layered onto slightly larger cream card stock.  I also used the "Miami Beach" image from the USA States Florida collage sheet.
I inked two chipboard scroll corners with Memento Luxe Rhubarb Stalk and heat embossed with clear embossing powder, adding tiny pearl stickers.  For filler, I added a few of the roses from the Valentine Stickers sheet, and a few flowers punched from scraps of the print paper.

I colored a torn strip of the wall joint tape with the Mossy Mixed Media Inx and adhered to the left side edge of the page.
Left Side of Spread
I cut one-third of a pink A10 size envelope and punched binding holes in the side, so that the opening would be at the top to insert a cream card stock tag.  I used the file tabs die cut for the top of the tag.  I left the tag blank to add photos or journaling.

I cut a piece of paper from the Uncharted Waters paper to fit the front of the envelope, and used my Ranger Blending Tool to distress the edges of the paper with the Leather inx.
Right Side of Spread with Envelope shown

Right Side of Spread without Envelope shown

For a shadow effect and to make each collage image pop, I added charcoal pencil around the edges and smudged it with a Blending stump.
Front of envelope
I fussy cut the whale from one of the print papers in the Uncharted Waters paper pad and adhered to the back of the envelope.
Back of envelope
For my second page spread, I used background papers from the Glitz Designs Pretty in Pink paper pad.  I lightly misted some pieces of cheesecloth with ink spray from my stash, then adhered to each page, as shown.

I layered the Brighton Beach collage images onto slightly larger cream card stock and adhered to page, as shown.

I adhered the banner from the Yours Truly What-Nots Embellishment Collection across the top of the page, as shown.  I used foam dots to lift them off the page.

I used a coin envelope and punched a thumb notch in the top of it, then added one of the Brighton Beach collage images that I distressed with Leather Inx and Ranger Blending Tool.
Left Side of Spread
I stamped "Look Out World" onto scrap cream card stock with brown ink and punched with a decorative label punch.

I used the Seashell Mold and Paperclay to make this selection of shells, sand dollars, etc.  When dry, I painted each piece with Twinkling H20s and adhered onto and around my cheesecloth.

For the tag insert, I used a TREASURES Bingo Card and left the back blank to journal onto.  I thought that whenever I go to the beach, I find all sorts of treasures, like these shells and such I have added.

Take A Trip Mini Album with Altered Pages: Part One

Hello everyone, and welcome! This month, the Altered Pages design team are taking trips throughout the USA.  I cannot wait to see what everyone comes up with.  We will be visiting various states, cities, and towns.  I chose California and Florida for my posts this month.  Today, I am going to go with the west coast theme, so California it is!

I decided to work in my metal covered mini album that I made a couple of months ago.  I have lots of  blank pages to work in, and Altered Pages is my go to store for dressing up my mini album pages.

First Page Spread
On this page, I added Glitz Design Papers, collage images from USA States California and San Francisco collage sheets. I adhered Petaloo flowers, a scroll corner that I inked with Memento Luxe Nautical Blue and embossed with clear embossing powder, a piece of the yellow Sheer Ribbon, and a few gem stickers.
Left Page of spread
On this page, I added collage images from San Francisco, 1950s Transportation Cars,  and Drive Me Anywhere Cars collage sheets.  I used a rosette die to make the rosette, adding the Route 66 sign to the center.  I stamped "wanderlust" from the Graphic 45 Come Away With Me Stamp set and adhered to a Glitz Designs  journaling sticker.

I folded a famous hotels tag about one-third of the way up, punched a thumb notch, and adhered the tag to the page, using the blending tool and the Leather inx to distress the edges.  I made a small tag to fit inside (see photos of tag below).
Right Page of spread
I used images from the Route 66 collage sheet on this side of the tag.
Side 1 of Tag
On the reverse, I adhered this fun image of a 1958 Ford Fairlane from the Drive Me Anywhere Cars collage sheet.  It fit perfectly on my tag.
Side 2 of Tag

On my second page spread, I used print papers from the Graphic 45 Secret Garden 6x6 paper pad, adding more collage images from the San Francisco collage sheet.
Second Page Spread
I fussy cut the word "San Franciso" and adhered to the top of the left page.  I used a coin envelope and punched a thumb notch in the top of it, then added a scrap of Glitz Design print paper that was distressed with Leather Inx.  I added a California license plate image, along with some Petaloo flowers  a fabric butterfly, and more gem stickers.
Left Page of spread
I used a Journey Bingo Card as my tag, since a tiny bit of trimming allowed it to fit nicely inside the coin envelope.

Side 1 of Tag
On the reverse side of the card, I used this "Greetings from Califorinia" image from the USA States California collage sheet.
Side 2 of Tag
For the right side of my second page spread, I used more images from the San Francisco collage sheet, and stamped the trolley image onto a Graphic 45 label with the Leather inks.   I turned it into a pocket to hold yet another tag.  More Petaloo flowers were added, along with gem stickers.
Right Page of spr

I cut out the  black and white image of the bridge and adhered to a slightly larger piece of black card stock.  I thread a piece of the yellow Sheer Ribbon through the hole.

My Pisa de Resistance for The Robin's Nest

Hi everyone.  I am back with another with another scrapbook page layout (and a little play on words) for The Robin's Nest that I think will surprise you when you find out how I did it.  I am so excited to share this with you, and I absolutely love how this turned out.

Would you believe this paper was once black?  This is a fabulous technique that I learned from Tim Holtz when using his Kraft resist papers, but I am using it on black card stock paper from The Robin's Nest.   This paper is certainly beautiful as is, but what if I needed some colored paper?  Well, I have lots to tell you so let's get to it.

After applying Picket Fence Distress Stain all over the gold on black paisley paper, blend 3 to 4 distress ink colors with your blending tool.

When completely covered, your paper will look like this.

Voila, black paper no more.  Isn't that fantastic?  Hard to believe this was ever black paper.

After a wonderful visit to Italy this year, I chose this picture taken of the Tower of Pisa.  It goes so well with this paper.  I adhered the picture to a piece of corrugated cardboard, then added some hard molding paste for a shabby look.  I also added hard molding paste through a brick stencil along the edges, which appears in this photo, too.

I used a tag from the Blue Glitter Journaling tag sheet and fussy cut around it to make a decorative tag for journaling.  After determining where to place my journaling tag, I punched two small holes on either side of a straight cut I made through the paper.

On the back, you can see where I have inserted the tag through the slit and placed double-sided tape around it.  I attached another piece of card stock to close the pocket and prevent the tag from falling through.

I inked an embossed chipboard butterfly with the same colors used on the background paper, then covered it completely with 3D Crystal Lacquer.  Halloween and Fall Foliage Dew Drops were added to form the body.  I love the dimension achieved with Dew Drops.  The butterfly was attached at the top of the tag and acts as a pull tab.

I used letter rub-ons to spell out "Pisa" on the tag.

Now for even more fun.  I am going to show you how you can take a seemingly uncoordinated piece of paper and make it work with another.  In this example, I used Tulip Wheels paper to make flowers to add to my page.  After punching five-petal flower and scalloped circles, I made quite a beautiful bouquet, don't you think?  Pictured below are several five-petal flowers punched from the Tulip Wheels paper, then inked with the same colors of ink used on the background paper.  A little bit of folding and curling the petals give these flowers lovely dimension.  The further addition of Cherry Chocolate and Christmas Dew Drops to the centers also make them even more lovely.

My scalloped circle flowers were made by punching five circles, removing sections, as shown below, and gluing each piece into a cone shape.  Insert the cone shapes inside of each other results in a beautiful rose.  These were also punched from the Tulip Wheels paper and inked.

For variety, I used some of the scalloped circles individually, snipping into the center to lift and curl each petal for more dimension.  I again used Fall Foliage and Halloween Dew Drops for the centers of these flowers.  The green sprig is a piece of a tree branch from one of my bushes that was being trimmed.  (NOTE: No trees or bushes were harmed in the making of this page.)  I sprayed it with a clear sealer and attached it to the arrangement.  I also die cut a leafy border using the back side of the Tulip Wheels paper, which is actually a stripe.  I simply placed the die within the stripe of color I wanted, added a bit of ink, and adhered one to the top and one to the bottom.  Add a bit of ribbon, and I think this turned out to be a beautiful page.

It just goes to show you how easily we can change the look of our papers and other surfaces with simple things as ink and foam.  I am so very happy with the way this turned out.  I love The Robin's Nest papers and embellishments, and I know you will, too!

Tips and Techniques Thursday

Hello again, and welcome back to another edition of tips and techniques.  Today, I want to show you a technique that I learned from Tim Holtz when using his Kraft resist papers, but I am using it on a piece of gold glittered black card stock paper from The Robin's Nest.   This paper is certainly beautiful as is, but what if I needed some colored paper?

Gold on Black Paisley

The Ranger products I used are pictured below.

The first thing you will do is apply the Picket Fence Distress Stain all over the black paper and blend out (somewhat) with a clean paper towel or cloth.

When completely covered, your paper will look like this.

Next, use your blending tools to pick up various colors from your Distress Ink pads and blend them out across the paper.  For deeper color saturation, I applied the ink pad directly to the paper, then blended with the foam tool.

Voila, black paper no more.  Isn't that fantastic?  Hard to believe this was ever black paper.  The picture does not do it justice.  It is absolutely gorgeous in person.  It just goes to show you how easily we can change the look of our papers and other surfaces with simple things as ink and a foam blender.

I will show you the finished piece in my next blog post for The Robin's Nest, which is scheduled for next Monday, 17 September.   I hope you will drop by their blog and check it out.

In the meantime, I hope you have a wonderful weekend and happy crafting!

Got Milk? Page Layout for The Robin's Nest

Hello again.  Hope everyone is enjoying their Labor Day Weekend.  I have a really cute Robin's Nest page layout for you all today.  First, let me introduce you to my two sweet little fur babies, Chloe (left) and Zoe (right).  They are sisters.  In fact, they were the entire litter.  So they have been together their entire lives. If you look carefully in the picture, you will see that they are both quite interested in the cookie I am holding in my hand, hence, the "got milk" theme.  Nothing goes better with a chocolate chip cookie than a cold glass of milk, right?

I used the Distressed Honeycomb paper as my base layer, then tore the Glitter Black Paws paper diagonally across and layered it on top, revealing a bit of the Distressed Honeycomb paper.

To make the rosettes above and below the picture, I first cut a length of the Blue Animal Print to 2-3/4" x 12", used a decorative paper punch along one long edge, then scored along the entire length every 3/8".  I did the same thing  with the Brown Leopard Print on Creme paper, only trimming this piece to
2-1/4" x 12".  I adhered the picture to a sturdy piece of cardboard so that it would hold the weight of the rosettes.  After accordion folding all four pieces, I layered one on top of the other and taped them to both the top and bottom of the picture.

I cut out an image of a jar that looked like a milk bottle, added my glittered letters to spell out "GOT MILK?", and adhered the jar with foam dots.  Since the letters were all black glitter, I had to add some gold paint to the word "GOT" so it would stand out against the Glitter Black Paws paper.  I used an Opal Liquid Pearls to imitate milk streaming from the jar and splashing as it hits the bottom.

I added the Teal (and brown) Glitter paws along the left edge, and added the Fall Foliage Dew Drops to imitate toe nails.  I just love how this added to the die cut paws.

The Robin's Nest Products I used are shown below with direct links, for your convenience.

I hope you enjoyed my project today, and I hope you will visit The Robin's Nest to see what other wonderful papers and embellishments they carry.  They are continually adding new things to make our crafting so much more pleasurable.  So please visit their website, and while you are there, please check out their Monthly Page Map Challenge.  It is a wonderful place for you to show off your work and have a chance to win a $25 gift certificate to use in their online store.

My next Robin's Nest post will be 17 September, but in the meantime, please check out what the other designers are creating.
