Hot Flames Card

Love Bug Creations

Hey there Robin's Nest fans.  Welcome back to the blog.  This month is HOT, HOT, HOT!  Check out these fabulous Robin's Nest flame papers this month.  But wait, there's more.  Check out the new Special Delivery Baby Boy and Baby Girl collections..  They are so cute and charming, you will want both collections.  Additionally, we are also teaming up with Love Bug Creations this month.  We will be using some of their scrumptious rumple ribbons.  The colors are to "dye" for.  You will want to visit their online store to check out the beautiful ribbons they carry.

For my first project piece, I made a card using the Mango Flame Border CS.  This would make a fabulous card for Father's Day, or for any celebration that you need to have a masculine card.
Trim a portion of the black embossed flames on the Mango Flame Border CS.
Fussy cut the flame, leaving a tiny orange border.
Fussy cut the motorcycle image from the Simple Stories "So Random" sheet.
Add Distress ink colors in wild honey and brushed corduroy to the motorcycle image.  Set aside.
Apply three colors of Brilliance inks to one side of the Spellbinders embossing folder.
Run 5-1/2" x 7-1/2" piece of Mango Flame Border CS (the side opposite the flame) through your die cut machine using the inked up embossing folder.
Trim around the edges of the embossed piece.
Apply the brushed corduroy ink pad directly to the embossed image. This brings out even more of the embossing.
Now we are really going to grunge it up.  Sprinkle TH tea dye distress embossing powder and heat emboss from the bottom.  Rub excess release crystals off of embossed image.
Fold kraft CS in half to make base card.  Adhere embossed background to front of card, as shown.
Adhere motorcyle cut out and flame cutout to front, as shown.  Leave flames free for added dimension.
Attach "Hot Ride" banner stickers to top left, as shown.  Glue gears to wheels with 3D Crystal Lacquer, as shown.  (See finished card photo above).

Supplies Used:

The Robin's Nest Mango Flame Border CS
The Robin's Nest Flame Border Sticker

And here are my finished cards.  Are these just the cutest cards ever?  And everything you need is included, which makes them so easy and quick to make.  And there is still a ton of product left in kit for many, many more cards.  Such a great value.

Mother's Day/Birthday Card

Hello everyone, and welcome back to my blog.  Today, I want to share with you a quick and fun card I made for my mother-in-law for Mother's Day and birthday.  She celebrates both at about the same time, and while I usually make two separate cards, I combined them this year.

I adhered an olive green paper to the card front, cut to 4-3/4" x 6-1/4".  This left a small border around my pre-folded A6 size (5" x 6-1/2") ivory card.  Set aside.

Print out the rose image from the Digital Delights Flower set onto a piece of cream paper.  I used the black and white outline version so I could color the image myself.  I used various Distress Ink markers.

Die cut a piece of pink Kraft-Core CS using Spellbinders die.  To turn it into an open frame, I die cut the largest frame, and also inserted the second largest frame in the middle.  This gave me an open frame instead of a solid, decorative edge mat.  I can use that center piece in another project.

Glue the frame over the rose image, trimming any excess cream cardstock that shows through the decorative edge.  Adhere this piece to the front of the card.  Add Rock Candy stickles to the rose, as shown.  Rather than apply glitter to the whole rose, I simply added lines of glitter along those in the image.
I computer generated my sentiment onto a piece of parchment paper, then used the same large frame from the die set to cut it out.  I used a blending tool with Walnut Stain to distress the edges.  Adhere this piece to the inside of the card.
Supplies used:

Digital Delights digital download - Flower Set
Spellbinders S5-147-Majestic Elements Resplendent Rectangles
K&Co Julianne Solid mat pad (olive green background)
Tim Holtz Kraft-Core paper (Nostalgic Collection)(pink frame)
Astroparche parchment paper (inside sentiment)
Cream card stock
Tim Holtz Distress Markers
Tim Holtz Distress ink pad - Walnut Stain
Tim Holtz Distress Stickles - Rock Candy

I hope you enjoyed my project today, and I look forward to having you visit again soon.  Thanks for your support, and have a very Happy Mother's Day!

Ponderings Mini Album Part 1

Hello Sin City Stampers, and welcome back to our blog.  Have you heard?  Sin City Scraps is now Sin City Stamps.  I love the new name.  I think you will, too!  It just seems to roll off the tongue so easily, at least it does for me.  In addition to the new name, I hope you will check out the new stamps and stamp plates they have come out with.  Oh my, are you going to love them!  And they are very reasonably priced, too!

My project today is a mixed media mini album.  I had an urge to get dirty, artsy dirty, that is.  So here goes.  I plan to use this little mini to keep tiny keepsakes and memorabilia, favorite quotations, as well as any profound thoughts I might want to remember.  As soon as I saw the Metal Madness stamp plate, I immediately thought "book covers".  But it is such a versatile stamp set, it also makes the most beautiful backgrounds, as you can see in my previous post where I used it for a card background.

Paint a piece of canvas (it does not have to be sticky back, like I used) using acrylic paints tahiti blue, seamist, and leaf green.  I like to squirt the paint onto the canvas and mix it up from there.  Blend as much or as little as you like.
You will get some really nice color variations that way.  Allow paint to dry.
Cover background stamps with gesso and stamp the larger background twice and the skinny background once onto canvas.  Allow gesso to dry.
Most of you worry about applying paint to your stamps.  This picture shows how messy your stamp will be, and that is okay.  We are going for an altered, kind of grungy, look.  Just be sure to clean it immediately after stamping.  That is the beauty of using unmounted stamps.  You can run it under the faucet and scrub it with a soft brush to remove all the paint.  No wood to worry about getting wet.
Mix a bit of seamist with water to get a wash, and simply brush over the entire canvas.
The picture shows only one image covered, so you can see the difference.  It tones down the white of the gesso image.
I also sprayed the covers with Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls Mist.  It barely shows in the photo, but it really looks gorgeous.
Here is a close-up of the texture from the gesso.
Cut three pieces of chipboard so they are the same size as your stamped images.
To cover each piece of chipboard with the canvas,  I trimmed the stamped images,  leaving some extra around the image for turning.  I next made a crease in the canvas so I could see where I wanted to place my chipboard properly beneath the stamped image.  Remember, I have to work "blindly" on the back side, so creasing the canvas gives me a reference point for placing the chipboard.
Miter the corners, leaving about 1/8" of canvas from the corner of the chipboard.  In other words, do not cut the canvas right up to the corner.  If you do, the corner will not get covered and the chipboard will show.
Wrap and adhere the excess canvas to the reverse side.  Crease that tiny excess of canvas down over the corner of the chipboard, as shown, before wrapping the next side.
Center Tim Holtz small ring binder onto spine and mark placement for holes.  Punch holes with a crop-a-dile or hole punch.
Cut a piece of recycled Tyvek envelope to 4" x 5".  Paint with the same acrylic colors as used on the covers.  Spritz with Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls Mist.
Center chipboard spine piece over painted side of Tyvek, as shown in photo.
Center and adhere both covers on either side of spine, without leaving any gap between the chipboard pieces.  I used Helmar 450 glue to adhere the spine and covers to the Tyvek to ensure a good bond.
Paint edges of Tyvek on inside to match covers in case some of it shows later.
Stamp thin border image twice onto grunge board with Versamark ink and heat emboss with rust tapestry embossing powder.  Do the same with the ornate accent image.
Use a blending tool or foam to add rusty hinge distress ink over the stamped images.
Cut out each image and set aside.
Computer generate the word "Ponderings" using French Script MT or font of your choice.  Adhere acrylic label to paper with a vellum adhesive strip.
Trim around label and attach to front cover using brads.  Dab rust alcohol ink onto the acrylic label with a small piece of felt.  (NOTE:  If you plan to add anything else using brads, do it now so you can cover the brad prongs with your inside cover papers.)
Stamp large background onto three sheets of coordinating colors of card stock using bundled sage distress ink.  Cut out each image.  Two will be the inside covers, while the third will cover the spine and form a pocket.
Using a stormy sky distress marker, color only the flower part of the fairies image.
Stamp onto edges of inside covers, as shown.
Doesn't this make a beautiful background that matches perfectly?
Adhere the front and back covers, then center and adhere the lighter piece over the spine.  I used miracle tape and placed the tape on the chipboard spine, not the paper, to ensure I was only attaching the paper onto the spine.  Before laying the paper in place, though, I ran a bead of glue along the top and bottom edges of the paper.  Then I centered the paper over the spine and adhered the top and bottom to form a pocket. See photo below.  (NOTE:  Apply adhesive to spine on the book, not on the paper.  This will ensure you only adhere that part of the paper to the spine.)  Run a bead  of white glue along the top and bottom edges to form a pocket.
Use a bone folder to gently crease the paper on both sides of the spine, and re-punch the holes.
Insert brads through small ring binder, as shown.  The prongs will be on the outside of the book.  Don't worry, we are going to cover them.
Turn book cover over to the outside and adhere the two strips of grunge board made earlier with a strong glue, like Helmar 450, to act as hinges as well as cover the brad prongs.  Adhere one of the ornamental images you stamped earlier onto the spine, again using the Helmar 450 glue.
After adding the rusty hinges, I felt I needed to blend a bit of the rusty hinge distress ink onto the cover to bring it all together.  Heat set the ink.  Oh my, do I ever like this now!  That is the fun of mixed media.  You can always add more to your project.  Just keep going until you like it.

Here is a photo of the finished inside of my little mini album.  But wait, we need some pages.
I found these cute black library pockets in my stash, as well as these little cream coin envelopes.  They are the perfect size for my little book, but they need some holes punched to fit in the ring binder.
To make it easy to punch holes to match the spacing for the ring binder, I used a scrap of paper and made a template.  That way, I was sure where my holes need to be before punching on my cute little envelopes.  Then I clipped the template to several envelopes and used my crop-a-dile to punch several at once.
Voila!  My little pockets and envelopes fit perfectly and are ready to hold whatever treasures I can find to store in them.

Supplies used:

Sin City Stamps Metal Madness
Sin City Stamps Fairies & Blossoms 2
Miracle Tape
Thick chipboard
Claudine Hellmuth Studio Sticky Back Canvas (natural)
WRMK Crop-a-dile hole punch
Acrylic Paints:  Apple Barrel Leaf Green, Ceramcoat Tahiti Blue, Folk Art Seamist

K&Co Julianne Solid Mat Pad
Acrylic oval label

5 Small Cream Coin Envelopes (3" x 4-1/2")
2 Small manila tags (2-1/8" x 4-1/4")

My little album is not completely finished yet.  I need to embellish it further, so I hope you will stop back by the blog in two weeks to see Part 2 of how I use my Sin City stamps, papers, and more mixed media to embellish this little beauty further.

I hope you enjoyed my Part 1 of my project today and that you are inspired to play with mixed media and stamps, too.  It is so much fun, you will not want to stop playing.  So be sure to stop by Sin City Stamps and check out their new stamp plates, and pick up some Miracle Tape, too.  The blog is full of inspiration from the design team, so I hope you will visit often.

Thanks so much for stopping by, and see you again in two weeks!  Until then, happy crafting!

Happy Birthday, Little Brother

Hi everyone, and welcome back.  I am so glad you stopped by today.  I know we are always looking for more masculine cards to make for our guys.  My little brother's birthday was yesterday, 30 April, but I did not want him to see his card, so I am posting it today.

Supplies used:

5" x 6-1/2" ivory pre-folded card
Authentique Strong Collection 12x12 papers
     - Mighty (blue damask design)
     - Marvelous (yellow diamonds)
Spellbinders S5-134 - A2 Fancy Postage Edge die
Bella's Best Stamp Paper - white
Copic Markers
Memento Tuxedo Black ink pad
Distress Frayed Burlap ink pad
Jayne Nestorenko clear stamp set - Apple of My Eye collection

Directions:

I used the new Authentique Strong collection papers for this card.  I covered an ivory card with "Mighty", leaving just a small margin of the base card showing.

I die cut "Marvelous" using Spellbinders frame die and layered that on top.  I always seem to distress ink my edges, and this card was no exception.  So I used frayed burlap to distress them all.

I stamped the boy and girl image using Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto a piece of stamping paper, then colored the image with Copic Markers.  Again, I distressed the edges with frayed burlap.

After flattening a bottle cap, I added the "you and me" image from the Strong collection and adhered to the top left.

I then stamped "Best Friends Forever" from the stamp set onto a border piece, and die cut using the same Spellbinders die.

I hope you enjoyed my masculine card project today.  Since Father's Day is just around the corner, maybe this has inspired you to make a really nice masculine card.

As always, thanks so much for stopping by.  I hope you check back on Friday to see the cute mini album I made for Sin City Stamps.

Until next time, happy crafting!

Leslierahye's 2nd Annual Earth Day BLOG HOP

Hello everyone, and Happy Earth Day!  I'm so glad you stopped by today.  If you arrived here from Leslerahye's blog, then you are on track.  Otherwise, you might want to backtrack and start at her blog to follow along.  In any case, a complete list of blog participants is listed at the end of this post, so you won't miss a creative thing.  There are lots of giveaways, too, so be sure to leave your comments on each blog.

I am very happy to be able to be a part of Leslierayhe's 2nd Annual Earth Day blog hop.  The theme for this blog hop is upcycled crafts.  It can be anything we want to make, just so long as we renew, reuse, and recycle.

So, in keeping with the theme, I first had lunch.  I made some tuna salad, then I washed the tuna can.  Okay, just kidding. We are not going to go back that far.  I did have a clean tuna can that I thought would make a wonderful vintage looking pin cushion.  Here is a picture of my finished piece.  I think it is pretty vintage looking, don't you?

I covered the can with a pretty piece of scrapbook paper.  I found a pretty font on my computer and printed the word "Pincushion" onto a piece of Rub-Onz paper by Grafix.  Following the manufacturer's directions, I placed the rub-on in the center of the copper label.   Next, I lightly bent the label to fit around the can, attaching it at each end with brads.

I balled up a piece of fiberfill to fit inside the can and covered it with a pretty pink satin fabric circle.

I did this my hand sewing a running stitch around the outer circle edge and pulling the thread to tighten the fabric around the fiberfill.  Adjust to fit inside the can opening and tie off the thread.  Glue the pincushion inside the can.

I found some large pearl ended hat pins at my local craft store, so I added more beads before inserting them into the pincushion.  These are merely decorative.  More beaded pins were either inserted through sew-in type snaps, or alone, for more decoration.  German scrap, flowers, and buttons were added, as desired.

Isn't this pretty?  I really do love how this turned out.  I  hope I have been able to inspire you to look around you and find something you can re-purpose to make a thing of beauty, or simply something you like and that makes you happy.  After all, isn't that what art is all about?

Please be sure to visit each of the blogs and leave a comment on each in order to be entered to win some blog candy.  Leslierahye has a nice giveaway, as do some of the other blog participants.  Your next stop is AlteredPages.com.  You can click on the link below.

As always, thanks so much for stopping by, and have a wonderful time hopping!
