How to Make a Rusty Grungey Tag Background with ColourArte Vivid Ultra Metallics

Hi everyone!  Welcome back for another video tutorial using ColourArte Vivid Ultra Metallics.  I started working on a Prima chipboard tag because they are super heavy duty and will stand up to a lot of weight.  I added Prima IOD molded pieces to the tag, some art stones, and started adding my colors.  I didn't know where it was going to take me, but I was super happy with the results.  My background began looking very rusty and grungey, and who doesn't like rust?

Here is my video tutorial showing my process.

How to Use Packaging to Make Beautiful Mixed Media Tags with ColourArte

Have you ever bought something that had pretty packaging?  Manufacturers spend lots of money on their packaging to make us want to buy their product.  Well, sometimes I just cannot bear to throw the cardboard backing or actual tag on a product.  Why not put these to use and turn them into beautiful mixed media tags to use in your art, whether it's for a card front, an addition to your art journal,  an embellishment for a canvas, a gift tag, or just to try out different mixed media techniques to keep for future reference!

I hope you can take a moment to check out my video tutorial below and perhaps fill your mind with ideas.

Card and Tag with Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts and Xyron

Hello everyone!  Barbara here on the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts blog today.  We are also partnering with Xyron this month, and I can't tell you how easy it makes adhering not only your papers, but even the laser cut chipboard manages to go through the Xyron.  How cool is that?

Anyway, I want to share a cute greeting card and matching tag using some older paper I found in my stash and dressing it up with my laser cut chipboard.

I always choose my chipboard first, then give it a coat of white gesso.

I chose my papers and cut them into different sizes, punched or cut edges and/or corners, and began layering the pieces onto a 5"x7" card.    Each piece of chipboard was inked and colored with a chalk ink pad in colors to match those in the papers.  You can always use other types of ink pads, or even acrylic paints.  Use whatever you have.

I made good use of my Xyron Create-A-Sticker.  As you can see in the next photo,  it takes paper quite nicely.

In the photo below, it also took the chipboard flourish just as easily.

The chipboard was adhered to the card base, as shown.  I tied a ribbon around the bottom and cut tiny flowers from a length of lace, colored with the same pink ink, and adhered to the card, as shown.

I made a separate matching tag that could be used as a gift tag.  This was put together in similar fashion.

And a few closeups.

Supplies Used:

5"x7" card
Print papers
Chalk ink pads
Lace

I hope you like my project and maybe are inspired to give your cards and tags, and any projects, an extra oomph with the addition of Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts chipboard.  And a special thanks to Xyron for sponsoring us this month.

Thanks for stopping by, and have a wonderful week!

Fun Tags and Cards with IMAGINE Crafts/Tsukineko

Welcome to our second week of creative inspiration with our fabulous partner this month, IMAGINE Crafts.  Each Tuesday during the month of June, IMAGINE Crafts will be sharing the projects that their Artists in Residence have created using products from Altered Pages.  The Design Team here at Altered Pages will also be featuring IMAGINE Crafts/Tsukineko products throughout the month.  We hope you will visit both blogs to see the fabulous projects that each team has designed for you.

So, I wanted to begin the week with a tag, or a card, or how about both?

As you can see, tags are extremely versatile.  If you are a card maker, but you love making tags, then turn those tags into a focal point on a card.  In the second photo above, I have added "merci" to the card to turn it into a Thank You card.  Just change up your sentiment for any occasion.

Directions:

Crop, resize, and print The Delineator from AP-1062 Once Upon A Time collage sheet onto cream card stock at 2.1" x 2.8". Trim around image, then sponge Memento Luxe Peanut Brittle around the edges, and dab the Memento Luxe Pistachio ink pad directly to the edges for a bit more definition.
Cut out Eiffel Tower using Silhouette machine and black card stock.  Sponge Delicata Golden Glitz and Silvery Shimmer over entire image and let dry.  The Delicata inks are so luscious and dreamy, and really add a gorgeous sparkle to your paper.

Spritz Goosebumps Clear Texture Spray over manila tag and let dry.
After the Goosebumps dried, I sponged IMAGINE Craft/Tsukineko Neon Electric Blue and Electric Green over the tag, and carefully hit it with my heat gun to set the colors.  You don't want to bubble the Goosebumps (or maybe you do).  Then I added touches of Memento Luxe Peanut Brittle to small areas of the tag, just to unify it.   Goosebumps adds so much texture to paper, and allows for some awesome color variations when inked up.
Next, I added some Vintage Creative Medium through a bubble stencil I had laying on my desk, using SillySticks.  I was so pleased how this color went perfectly with my other colors used.
Stamp tiny dragonfly in upper left portion of tag using StazOn Midi Midnight Blue ink.

Spritz a length of Seam Binding Ribbon with water.  Pick up some ink from the Memento Luxe Peanut Brittle ink pad and apply to wet ribbon to give it a vintage look.  Allow to dry in a crumpled fashion.  Adhere through hole in tag with scrap of lace.
Ink up a small metal circle with the Memento Luxe Pistachio ink, cover with clear embossing powder and heat emboss.  Be careful, it is metal and it DOES get hot.  Allow metal to cool, then stamp tiny pocket watch with StazOn Midi Midnight Blue.  Heat set ink and allow to cool.
Edge tag with StazOn Midi Nautical Blue to give it that nice, framed look.  The StazOn ink is permanent and works beautifully on nonporous surfaces like metal.  Add a large jump ring through both the ribbon and tag.

I felt my tag needed something else, so I adhered a strip of lace along the left edge, and colored two metal leaves with StazOn Midi Claret.
Adhere embellishments to tag, as shown in photo.

To turn your tag into a card, I added a piece of print paper to a 5" x 7" kraft card, edged with Memento Luxe Peanut Brittle and adhering tag to card, as shown.  Next, I printed "merci" from the AP-871 Mini Images Paris collage sheet, punched corners with ticket punch, and gave it that vintage look by sponging a light coat of Memento Luxe Peanut Brittle with an ink blusher.  I popped it up with foam tape over the tag.

Altered Pages products used:
Manila tags
AP-871 Mini Images Paris collage sheet (merci)
AP-1062 Once Upon A Time collage sheet (The Delineator)
The Muse Dragonfly rubber stamp set
The Muse Time rubber stamp set
SillySticks
Seam Binding Ribbon

IMAGINE Craft/Tsukineko products used:
Delicata Golden Glitz and Silvery Shimmer
Memento Luxe Peanut Brittle, Pistachio, and Nautical Blue
Neon Electric Blue and Electric Green
StazOn Midi Midnight Blue and Claret
Sheet Metal (small circle tag)
Fantastix
Ink Blushers
Creative Medium Vintage

Other:  Bubble stencil, metal leaves stickers, metal clock hands, scrap lace, 1.8mm round punch, 5"x7" kraft card, print paper , ticket punch

I want to extend an extra special thanks to IMAGINE Crafts/Tsukineko for their generous supply of products to use and share techniques with you this month.  Be sure to come back often, and also visit the team's projects over at both the Altered Pages blog and Imagine Crafts blog this month.

Have a wonderful, creatively inky week!!!

Happy St. Patrick's Day Card

Hello everyone!  Today, I want to share a fun card for St. Patrick's Day!
This month, the design teams from both Altered Pages and The Robin's Nest are working together to promote each companies' products.  So, be sure to visit both blogs for loads of inspiration.

Supplies Used:

Altered Pages Collage Sheets:  AP 3008 - Erin Go Bragh (Wishing you a fine St. Patrick's Day)(Erins harp poem)(Erin Go Bragh); AP 416 - Victorian St. Patrick's Day (Shamrock); AP 1401 - Glorious Green (Butterfly)
Patonce Cross rubber stamp
Metallic rub-on cream (Kit #2)
Faber-Castell Big Brush Pen (Black)
12"x12" Double-sided green card stock (cut to 6" x 10")
The Robin's Nest:  Kiwi sorbet glitter cardstock; Fresh Mowed Grass dew drops
Blue/green print paper for tag (2-3/8" x 4-1/4")
Corner Chomper (Cloud/Scallop)
Versamark Ink
Peeled Paint Distress Ink
Detail gold embossing powder
Medallion 3-in-1 punch (EK Success)

Directions:

Trim double-sided green card stock to 6" x 10", fold in half for card base.

Trim Robin's Nest Kiwi sorbet glitter cardstock slightly smaller than card front to allow some of the card color to show.  Punch four corners with scallop corner chomper.  Adhere to base card.

Punch strip of double-sided green paper using medallion punch.  Trim strip of blue/green print paper to approximately 1/4" x 6".  Weave this strip through punched strip, as shown.

Adhere along left side of card.

Trim "Wishing You A Fine St. Patrick's Day" image.  Layer image to reverse side of print paper cut slightly larger than the image to show a tiny border.  Edge with gold metallic rub-on on cream.
Below is a close-up of how the metallic cream looks on the edges.  I just love how it looks.
Stamp Patonce Cross onto reverse side of blue/green print paper using Versamark ink and detail gold embossing powder.  Cut out cross shape.

To make the tag, trim blue/green print card stock to 2-3/8" x 4-1/4", punch both top corners using scallop corner chomper.  Adhere both the collage image and stamped cross image, as shown.
Adhere butterfly image to a piece of lightweight chipboard and trim.
Edge image with black Faber-Castell Big Brush Pen.
The butterfly is going to be used as a pocket to hold your tag.  To determine where to place glue onto the back of the butterfly, simply turn it over and place tag so that you can see where it will fit behind the butterfly.  This is where you will place the glue.

Adhere butterfly pocket to card front, as shown.

To finish off the back of the tag, trim Erins harp poem, edge with Peeled Paint distress ink, and adhere to center of tag, as shown.
Now simply insert the tag into the butterfly pocket.  (See photo of finished card above).

To finish off the front, I added Robin's Nest dew drops to the tag, the border, and the card corners.  I love dew drops because they always add so much interest and a bit of dimension, and they come in a huge variety of colors, shapes, and sizes.  Here is a close up of the tag with the dew drops added to the cross.  What a difference, don't you think?
To finish off the inside of the card, trim blue/green print card stock to 1-5/8" x 2-1/8", adhere "Erin Go Bragh"image that has been distressed with peeled paint around the edges to center. Adhere to inside of card.

Trim large shamrock and adhere to inside of card, as shown.  This carries the theme of your card to the inside and makes for a pleasant surprise for your recipient.

The fun thing about this card is that it is a bit interactive for the recipient.  They can remove the tag and read the fun poem on the back, pull it out, use it as a book mark, whatever their pleasure.  And if you are not a card maker, you can always make just the tag and attach it to your bottle of wine, or six pack of Killian's beer to take to a friend's home for a St. Patrick's Day gathering.

So have fun with it, and be sure to pop on over to both Altered Pages and The Robin's Nest to see what creations both design teams have in store for you this month, as well as their fun products.

Thanks for stopping by.  Have a wonderful week, and I wish you all a Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Cheers!!!
