Dragonfly Embroidery Hoop Redux with ColourArte

Hi everyone!  Today, I want to share a mixed media project that I made a couple of years ago, but I was not really happy with how it turned out.  I just could not figure out what I needed to do to improve it.  Fast forward two years, and here is my "new and improved" redo.  Okay, I am very easily entertained, but when you see the "before" and "after", you will have to admit that it is now much more colorful.  I have also added much more texture and interest to the piece.

Here is my video tutorial where I show you what I did differently.   Mainly, I used the ColourArte Vivid Ultra Metallics, which did not even exist at the time of my first video.

Mixed Media How To - The Good Life Art Journal Page

Happy Thanksgiving and many blessings to all.  In the US, we celebrate Thanksgiving, so since today is Thanksgiving for us, I wanted to use my art journal to commemorate all that I am thankful for.  I will be using some Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts chipboard and ColourArte products to help me out.  I love using chipboard in my art journals because it adds some dimension and not too much bulk.  Also, when I find just the right shapes, it seems to get that ole' mojo started again.

How to Make a Rusty Grungey Tag Background with ColourArte Vivid Ultra Metallics

Hi everyone!  Welcome back for another video tutorial using ColourArte Vivid Ultra Metallics.  I started working on a Prima chipboard tag because they are super heavy duty and will stand up to a lot of weight.  I added Prima IOD molded pieces to the tag, some art stones, and started adding my colors.  I didn't know where it was going to take me, but I was super happy with the results.  My background began looking very rusty and grungey, and who doesn't like rust?

New Series: Make Your Own Embellishments with ColourArte - PermaStone and Product Packaging

Hi everyone!  Today I am sharing my second video tutorial in my new how to series on making your own embellishments.  I have so many ideas in my head for things to use, and I also get even more inspiration from online websites like Pinterest, as well as some of the many talented artists' blogs.

Today, I will show you how I used the plastic packaging from products I purchased as molds.  If I liked the shape, whether a circle, rectangle, heart, square, etc., I put it to use.  These make excellent substrates for your embellishments, and I even decided to use one of them as a key holder.  But what they all have in common is that I used ColourArte Primary Elements powdered pigments an Vivid Ultra Metallics to bring them to life.

Altered Valentine's Heart Box with ColourArte

Hi everyone!  I hope you all are enjoying a warm home and a place to craft.  Today, I have another video tutorial to share with you.  I bought this cheap little wooden box from my local craft store, and I love altering these things.  I thought it would be fun  to make it more elegant and perhaps look more like it is holding some precious gem or special trinkets, or maybe even a love letter from days gone by.  What would you keep in yours?

Anyway, I'm going to show you how to make a molded focal image with plaster and use German Dresden scrap borders to add elegant textural elements to the box.  Then I will show you the beautiful ColourArte Vivid Ultra Metallics I used to add color, shimmer and shine to the surface.

How to Make Molded Embellishments Continued: Reveal Molded Pieces

Hi everyone.  Barbara  here again with a quick continuation of my previous video about making molded pieces with ColourArte Vivid Ultra Metallics and Radiant Gels.  

I left off with this mold containing Pink Azalea Vivid, but it wasn't dry enough for me to remove it to show you how pretty it is and all the details it captures.  So, it is a few days later now and, as I promised, here is a quick reveal of it and how it looks coming out of the mold.



A couple of still photo close-ups for you.  As you can see, all of the detail is captured in the paint.  And the really cool thing about these are that they are very flexible, unlike some paper and polymer clays that become very stiff when dry.  Then there is plaster, which will not bend at all.  These have the flexibility to wrap around jars, ornaments, bowls, glasses, tin cans, you name it.  

And this is one of the three that I first dusted inside the mold with Primary Elements Gold Nugget before pouring the Vivid paint into it.  It left this beautiful highlight and even better, the Primary Elements pigment will not rub off.  Another plus, I think.

Part Two - Finishing Acrylic Poured Canvas with ColourArte

Hi everyone.  Today I am sharing the second part of my acrylic poured canvas video tutorial in which I did a lot of manipulating and experimenting with pouring products and, of course, ColourArte.  You can CLICK HERE to see that first video.  

The canvas has completely dried since taping of that video, and here are photos of how it looks now.

 

Although I did not get very many cells in this pour, I still thought it was pretty, but not quite pretty enough to stand on its own as a piece of abstract art.  So, I decided to use it as my background for an assemblage piece.  In the second part of this project video tutorial, I will show you how I finished the piece and hopefully saved it from trash can.  I hope you will gain some inspiration from my second part of this video tutorial here.

How to Decorate a Wooden Door Hanger

Hi everyone.  Today I wanted to share a really fun little project that can make either a great addition to your studio, or a really fabulous gift for just about anyone with a door.  Okay, I am just being goofy now, but these wooden door hangers are such fun to decorate and can be transformed into beautiful inspirational art pieces for you to see every time you enter your studio.  Also, imagine how you could decorate these to give to friends and family to suit their tastes.

How to Transform a Plastic Hand Mirror from the Dollar Store

Hi everyone.  Do you ever shop the Dollar Store and see things that look pretty if only they were not made of plastic?  Something that would make a great gift if only it wasn't so cheap?  Those were my thoughts when I saw this embossed hand mirror.  Follow along with my video to see how I transformed this simple piece to look more expensive and pretty using ColourArte Vivid Ultra Metallics .  It even felt good in my hands when I was finished, and no one would ever suspect it was made of plastic.
